Deborah Sykes - Personal details
Deborah Sykes, pictured here at a City College party, is a 26 year old lecturer in English. She was born in Goldthorpe, and has lived in South Yorkshire all her life. She got her first degree at Sheffield Hallam University, and took a teaching qualification after that. She spent a year working in colleges in the South Yorkshire area, then was appointed as a full-time lecturer at City College three years ago.
Her father, who died five years ago, was a miner who lost his job in the pit closures. Her mother did shop work in Barnsley, then became a part-time co-ordinator for Women in Education after she got an Open University degree in Sociology. She still lives in Goldthorpe.
Deborah moved to Sheffield when she got her university place, and stayed there after she graduated. When she got her full-time appointment, she bought a house in the Crookes area of Sheffield. She lives there alone, apart from her cat, Buttercup.
