The warehouse earmarked to become a new art gallery

New Gallery for City

Sheffield is to get a new art gallery. The Second Site Group have won funding from the Arts Trust to renovate a derelict warehouse near Bacon Lane Bridge.

A spokesperson for the Trust said today, "Sheffield needs a gallery that will bring the new developments in international art to the city."

Local residents had mixed views. Ron Flowers, a resident of the nearby Park Hill Flats, said, "What we needs is a community centre, not something like that that won't do anything for us."

Sheffield people will remember that it was close to this warehouse where the body of 9-year-old Ellie Chapman was found. Local man Mark Fraser is serving life for her murder.
